Who we areWhat is the difference between the Vancouver Public Library and the Vancouver Public Library Foundation? The Vancouver Public Library is a traditional public lending library, consisting of a main Central Branch and 21 branches located throughout Vancouver providing library services that include lending, literacy support, and reference, as well as a wide range of free programs and training courses. The Library is an integrated part of the community framework of the City of Vancouver. The Vancouver Public Library Foundation is a non-profit organization whose sole purpose is to raise funds to help the Library provide the highest level of services and programs possible. The Foundation helps to provide financial security to the Library, above and beyond government core funding, through the support of individuals and the private sector. Why should I make a donation to a tax-supported institution?Vancouver Public Library's core services - staffing, collections, equipment and buildings - are covered by government funding. The Vancouver Public Library Foundation helps Vancouver Public Library meet the ever-growing and ever-changing needs of the community. Programs the Library’s core operating budget do not cover include: reading enrichment programs, new technologies to provide the public with free and equal access to the latest in electronic information resources, and cultural and educational programs. This is why your financial support is so important.
